Depending on the option you choose, you can reach the summit on foot with a local guide, or explore the volcanic landscapes by mini-jeep or Land Cruiser.
The hiking option takes you to the summit of Mount Batur before continuing around the crater, discovering the natural fumaroles and the landscapes shaped by volcanic activity.
The vehicle options let you catch the sunrise without the full climb on foot, then explore the striking expanses of black lava at the foot of the volcano.
Afterwards, a stop at a Balinese coffee plantation gives you a chance to pause and taste several local specialities before heading back to your hotel.

A torch and a walking pole are handed to you before you set off.

The night hike starts, heading for the summit of Mount Batur.

Worth knowing about the Jeep & Land Cruiser options 🚙
The mini-jeep and Land Cruiser options do not go to the same part of Mount Batur as the climb on foot. For that reason, Bamz does not personally accompany these two options.
You will be looked after by a local driver-guide from his team, who will take you to the viewpoint for sunrise, then across the volcanic landscapes and the black lava fields.
If you would like to experience this with Bamz and meet him at the summit of Mount Batur, we recommend choosing the trek on foot.

The trip is private. Pick-up times vary depending on where your hotel is. Pick-up is offered from Ubud, Canggu, Seminyak, Kuta and the surrounding areas. The hike takes place at night on volcanic ground that is sometimes steep and uneven. Reasonable fitness is needed for the climb on foot. How long the climb takes depends on the group's pace. The sunrise and the visibility depend on the weather. If there is cloud, rain or fog, the view cannot be guaranteed. The programme may be adapted to the weather, the state of the paths or safety conditions. The main guide may be joined or replaced by a trusted member of his team. The stop at the coffee plantation is optional. Some plantations offer luwak coffee and may sell their products. No purchase is required. The mini-jeep option takes up to 3 people. The Land Cruiser option takes up to 4 people. The trek price applies to a private group of 1 to 5 participants.

Do I need to be fit to climb Mount Batur?
You don't need to be a serious athlete, but the climb does ask for reasonable fitness. The hike takes place at night on volcanic ground, with sections that are sometimes steep and slippery. Your guide will adapt the pace to the group as much as possible. Travellers who would rather not hike can choose the mini-jeep or the Land Cruiser.
How long does the climb up Mount Batur take?
The climb usually takes between an hour and a half and two hours, depending on the group's pace, the state of the trail and the weather.
Which option should I choose?
The hike on foot is recommended if you want the full experience and to reach the summit of Mount Batur. The mini-jeep is ideal for a more accessible experience as a couple or in a small group. The Land Cruiser offers more room and comfort, particularly for families or groups of four.
